So, I'm changing my mind: they charged me €100 for wheel alignment and didn't do it (I have the invoice from the second garage that fixed the alignment), and charged me €60 for "hydraulic oil" when I broke down 24 hours later—no oil at all! Another garage topped up the oil; I have that invoice too.
So, it's a scam.
First contact: the mechanic was quite dismissive; I took his attitude for a grumpy, old-fashioned type.
He identified a damaged ball joint and steering rack that needed replacing. I said I wanted him to do the work and send me a quote. Less than three weeks later, I was about to leave. His wife, who handles reception and all this administrative stuff, hasn't sent me a quote, and every day when I call, she tells me "tonight!" or "tomorrow." I'm too tired, I do the quotes after work at 8 pm!' And the next day: not a single quote. For over 10 days.
Finally, a quote at the last minute, there was only a week left. Suddenly, they do me a 'great favor': 'We'll take you in exceptionally between two clients.' Okay, but I'd already been waiting for two weeks.
Anyway. I book accommodation and stay in the area at my own expense, leaving my car with them overnight. I pick it up the next day: they ask me to pay but give me no information. They don't talk to me, they just wait for the credit card. '€1400, here and goodbye.' So I ask if 'the boss is going to come and explain what he's found,' and that's when his wife declares she's 'fed up with this job, doing all the men's work!'
She leaves the office and goes to see him, and I follow her, thinking that's what I should do. She doesn't notice I'm behind her, and she mimics me, complaining about me to her husband. She uses a tearful voice, making up all sorts of whining... Shocked, I ask her if she's disrespectful to customers in general... The husband arrives, looks me up and down, and snaps, "We'll see later if I'm disrespecting you! Come on, I have your car key, so you pay now."
It's unbelievable. The guy actually threatens a woman, telling her he respects her! 😆
At this point, his wife stops complaining about him and defends him...
A house of horrors.
I'm waiting for my new mechanic to check the work of this man who shows no respect for women or even men who aren't from the village (according to two people I spoke to in Le Fossat).
I asked him to check the oil level. Well, while driving across France, there was a burning smell under the hood, and the oil level was at the minimum, indicating it was burnt. That's seriously irresponsible.

Very friendly and welcoming.
We rented a car for two days, and they offered to pick it up the day before at 5 p.m.

An excellent garage, on a human scale. A mechanic who takes the time to clearly explain the repairs that are necessary, and especially why they are necessary, without trying to "confuse" you as is too often the case elsewhere. As a bonus, an extremely friendly and efficient welcome, both on site and by phone. Bravo!

Mr. Lestrade was remarkably efficient, very available and pleasant, and the assistant was so caring and professional. I recommend him for all your work on your car ;)
