I came to this garage for a serious problem (red oil warning light with immediate shutdown) and a ventilation issue.
I was presented with a quote and an invoice for over €2,700, including: timing belt kit, clutch, gearbox seals, oil pump, etc.
After this work, noises appeared and shifting gears became difficult, until reverse gear stopped engaging intermittently, then completely.
I even got stuck at a motorway service station, requiring a tow truck.
Another mechanic diagnosed the problem in a few minutes:
-> the control part for engaging reverse gear hadn't been properly tightened, causing significant play.
When the engine was hot, this play completely prevented reverse gear from engaging.
A simple tightening immediately eliminated all the symptoms (no more noise, no more jamming, normal operation). He clearly stated that this defect couldn't be caused by wear and tear; it doesn't just loosen on its own.
When I contacted the garage to report the initial jamming, they told me the jamming couldn't be related to their repairs, a claim now contradicted by the second mechanic's diagnosis and the very nature of the defect itself.
Furthermore, I requested a detailed copy of the invoice, and I haven't received any response in over a month. At over €2,700, I didn't expect to leave with a reassembly error and the resulting problems.
