Garage to Avoid – Highly Questionable Practices
For nearly 30 years, my mother (almost 80 years old) had her car serviced at this garage with complete confidence.
In early 2023, her car suddenly broke down. At her request, the insurance company had the vehicle towed to this garage.
Diagnosis: faulty clutch, therefore replacement
Bill of approximately €1000, to which was added a second bill for a battery replacement, not requested beforehand, bringing the total to over €1000. My mother, trusting them completely, didn't question anything.
Two and a half years later, she took her car in for its MOT, as usual.
MOT passed, but she was told that the clutch was broken again and absolutely needed replacing. My mother remembered having it replaced before and asked them to find the invoice. Mr. Barbou initially claimed not to remember, but the invoice was eventually found on the computer.
My mother was then told that:
- The car might have 40,000 km on it (even though she'd only driven 20,000 km in two and a half years, with supporting documentation)
- Clutches are supposedly less durable because asbestos is no longer used
- And that a "sturdier" clutch would be ordered this time.
Finding this very suspicious, my mother decided to have the car checked at my trusted garage.
The mechanic was very surprised that a garage wouldn't remember a clutch replacement, a rather uncommon procedure.
Even more surprising: a brand new clutch failing after only two and a half years and 20,000 km?!
After disassembly and inspection: the clutch is indeed completely shot, and BIG FIND: it's the original clutch!! SHOCK!!
So it was never replaced, despite a bill for around €1000!!
Conclusion: billing for work that was clearly not carried out on a trusting elderly person.
I'll let everyone judge for themselves, but for us, it's clearly a scam!!

The staff are very attentive to customers, which is much appreciated.
I will definitely return for my next service and repairs, and perhaps even for the purchase of a new vehicle.

While passing through Blois, I broke down on a Friday morning. I responded quickly to find the necessary parts within the day, and the repair was completed that same afternoon. A loaner vehicle was provided. High-quality, professional service. A company like the kind we'd like to see more often. I highly recommend it.
